Bilingual Survivor Services Counselor
General Definition: This position involves providing group and individual therapy to adult Spanish speakers; supervising assigned interns; maintaining accurate records and client files; program curriculum development; ensuring compliance with Agency policies and procedures; maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment for individual and group therapy.
Major Responsibilities:
Essential Job Functions:
o Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for individual therapy and group therapy.
o Provide individual, group and intake services for adults.
o Work schedule may require a minimum of 2 evenings and 1 weekend day per week.
o Work with community agencies and organizations to establish cooperative agency agreements.
o Develop and maintain domestic violence curriculum and activities in accordance with HHSC guidelines.
o Maintain and augment list of community resources for adult services.
o Provide appropriate referrals for adult services.
o Supervise assigned interns
o Attend weekly clinical staff meetings and other required meetings as scheduled.
o Coordinate and facilitate domestic violence education groups.
o Provide recommendations to the Survivor Services Program Manager for improved program services.
o Attend supervisory meetings as scheduled.
o Assist other staff as needed.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education:
Master’s Degree in Social Sciences required. Licenses/Certificates: licensed, license eligible, or actively pursuing licensure.
General:
o Ability to speak, read and write in Spanish.
o Excellent organizational, communication (verbal and written), problem solving, listening and inter-personal skills.
o Attention to detail.
Preferred experience:
o Preferred experience working with victims of family violence.
o Preferred experience in crisis de-escalation.
o Experience with varying cultural, ethnic, and social backgrounds and to varying value systems, attitudes and languages.
o Ability to work well under stressful circumstances.
o Ability to empathize, encourage and guide.
